Alanko katutähdeksi? is a national street performance competition, which is organized in connection with Popkatu and open for all street performance acts. It seeks to bring new life in the city centres by promoting the vibrant culture of busking and street performance, which is still a relatively new thing in Finland. As awards, the winners will receive hundreds of euros as grants, the 1st price being 1000 euros.

When you sign up for the competition you must mention the following details:
contact person's details: name, address, phone number, email address
performer(s): the group's name, the number of performers, instruments to be used as well as other equipment, the category (either busking/music acts or street performance), how much space is needed for the perfomance, whether electricity (line current) is needed.
Timetable
The contestants will perform on the pedestrian street in Joensuu (Kauppakatu) on Friday 13th of July between 12 noon and 7 p.m. and on Saturday 14th of July between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The specific times and places will be agreed upon with the contestants after the registration is over. The contestants can also perform outside of their arranged time and place anytime and anywhere within the Popkatu -area during Popkatu -week.
The winners
The winners will be selected by the jury. The members of the jury will be announced during the spring of 2012. The audience will also vote for their favourite act. The jury will announce the results at the city center's market place on Saturday 14th of July at 2 p.m. Changes in the timetable are possible.
Awards
As awards, the winners will receive hundreds of euros as grants, the 1st price being 1000 euros.
The jury will decide the division of grants according to the categories. One or more acts within a category can be awarded.
In addition, the audience's favourite will also be awarded!
SF SOUND -studio award:
The jury will select one act which will get to work in a studio for two days in SF Sound -studio during fall 2012. There, the winner can work on their demo with the help of top professionals. Details concerning the dates will be discussed with the winner separately.
Other issues to take into consideration
We provide electricity (line current) for the performance places. The contestants will bring what they need with them. We are seeking an act which specifically works on the street. This is why you should be in an "unplugged" mood when equipping yourself for the competition.
