The purpose of the Popkatu association is to support and promote the interest in the arts of street performance as well as elevate its artistic status, taking the children and the youth in special consideration. The association was founded in 1995 and it is located in Joensuu.
In order to achieve this goal the association organizes street performance events, concerts, art exhibitions, contests etc. The most visible aspect of Popkatu is the week-long Popkatu -festival. It is a carnevalesque city festival intended for the whole family and it is organized in the centre of Joensuu for the eleventh time this year. During the festival one can see and hear music, theatre, circus and dance. All the events are free of charge, except Rytmiklubi which serves as the official Saturday afterparty for Ilosaarirock.

The membership fee is 10 euros per year. Supporting members can pay more if they so choose. By joining the association you are supporting the promotion of street performance.
